Future Disco takes over Blissfields Festival!

If the UK needs anymore festivals on the annual calendar is questionable at best. The hectic festival season now starts at the end of May and runs until the back end of September, squeezing every possible date from the short British summer.

Blissfields sits bang in the middle of all this on the 1st of July, hosted in the tranquil Hampshire countryside in the south of England. Having run for ten years the festival has gained a reputation as a strong smaller alternative to the larger festivals, that hog the mainstream attention. But this year Blissfields have upped the game, increased capacity, added more stages and gone and asked Future Disco to host a stage of it’s own on the Friday night!

Without a second thought, we agreed and got to work on putting together a fine line up that would kick off the festival with a bang. Headline slot goes to Crazy P Soundsystem who combine Djing and vocals form Danielle Moore to ensure the party goes off! New producer on the block Maxxi Soundsystem, who plays more than a handful of festivals this summer, gets busy for his first appearance for Future Disco. Then our friends Wolf Music join residents Sean Brosnan and Dom Chung to fill the gaps and take the party from 8pm until 3am.

If you needed any more encouragement that this will be a night not to be missed then the whole evening in played out on top of a bus. This is not like any other bus, but a double decker with a Jacuzzi on the top deck, alongside the DJ, bar on the bottom and an outside soundsystem. Whether you can DJ while in the jacuzzi remains to be seen, but we will no doubt give it a try at some point over the 7 hours.

Future Disco @ Blissfields – Friday 1st July

In Review: Future Disco @ Ministry of Sound

Future Disco is now firmly established in the Ministry of Sound Saturday night program, having resided in the famous bar for over a year and a half now. While the main room takes care of the big room sounds, the by no means small bar (at 800 people capacity) plays host to the very best in upfront Future Disco sounds.  The residency has seen a host of guests alongside residents Sean Brosnan and Dom Chung, including The Revenge, Crazy P, Juan Maclean and Jacques Renault to name a few. Last Saturday it was the turn of the young nineteen year old producer David August.

The Hamburg based DJ/ Producer has won over many fans with his productions on the Diynamic label with his groove based house that has been a firm fixture on the playlist of Future Disco nights over the past few months.

On the 21st May, the warm up came from Dom Chung who slowly cranked up the volume and tempos so that by 1am there was a packed dancefloor underneath the barrage of hanging mirror balls. A smooth transition from Disco to House set the stage for David August for his debut appearance at the club. He didn’t disappoint with a set of faultlessly mixed deep house that contained waves of energy that the crowd responded with cheers and hands aloft.

The closing set came form Sean Brosnan who kept things deep and kept people moving until 5.30am. A visit to the main room for a bit of Kerri Chandler and a final exit from the club to be greeted by bright sunshine and another quality session at Ministry of Sound.

The next Future Disco date at Ministry of Sound is Saturday 22nd August with Maxxi Soundsystem.

David August interview for Future Disco

We can’t wait for our next party at ministry of sound with David August. He is a young producer from Hamburg who’s records we have been playing for months on end and no doubt any of you reading this would have heard. Couple that with the fact Kerri Chandler is in the main room and you start to have all the ingredients for an amazing night. You can see more about the event on Facebook but in the mean time check out our little interview from when we caught up with the man himself.

We know you make great house music and you will play for Future Disco at Ministry of Sound, does disco have any influence on your sound as your music seems to cross boundaries?

Disco might influence my sound in a way, that I try to produce music for the club, for the disco atmophere… It doesn’t make me special, because nearly every house music producer has the  same thought. I have to say, that I kept hearing a lot of old disco classics of the 80s and 90s. Old good house music…call it disco if you want. This might also be the roots, which has inspired me a lot lately.

What’s big in your Dj box right now?
I have a couple of unreleased stuff from buddies like Solomun, which are going to be released in future…bombs! and then I might have some other unreleased stuff from myself… ;)

What about your influences, was there a particular club or dj that had areal effect on your growing up?
The diynamic club in hamburg “EGO” surely inspired me a lot…and  the track “Feuervogel” by Stimming & Solomun, which opened my eyes regarding house music. This was the decisive step.

You are based in Hamburg, most vistors tend to go to Berlin, if we were in hamburg for a day whats the top 3 things we should do?
Absolutely go across to the “reeperbahn” (red light street), have some drinks in the “schanze” quarter, go to a club night at EGO and finally go to the fishmarket sunday in the morning.

Are you looking forward to playing ministry of sound and coming to London?
Yes, I am! I was in london a couple of weeks ago…a smaller club, quite nice. But Ministry of Sound has still got a big name, I heard this word “ministry” at the age of 14 for the first time, so I am happy to have the pleasure to play there.

In Review: Future Disco @ Garden Party, Leeds

When you say the words garden party, you may think of tea on the lawn, deck chairs or Pimms – this was one very different Garden Party last Sunday. Set both inside and out, of the long standing music venue – The Faversham in Leeds, The Garden Party really is one of those special clubbing occasions in the calender. Only taking place three times a year the whole event has a festival feel with marquees dotted around the grounds and more rooms of music than you can count on one hand.

Future Disco was hosting the aptly named Gimp room. The room quickly filled up come 10pm when the terrace closed and everyone searched out their next musical fix. After Ryan Shaw got things moving nicely, Sean Brosnan and Dom Chung took turns to delve deep and play across house and disco, keeping the excitement high and smiles wide.

Bouncing speakers, beer being split on a cdj, power cables accidentally being pulled from the walls: nothing could stop this party from turning into one hot sweaty rave room. While the venue started to thin as the ravers retreated after an long day and night of music, the Future Disco room remained buzzing and come 4am, Dom Chung played the last record to applause and murmurs of a house party. You have to love Bank Holidays and you have to love Leeds on a Bank Holiday even more.

In Review: Future Disco Liverpool with MCDE

It was our second Future Disco appearance as part of the huge Circus parties that take place at the Masque in Liverpool. Last time was back in December with Greg Wilson playing to a packed out crowd. Fast forward four months and once again we took over the second room, while Carl Cox and Yousef rocked the main theatre, this time bringing in one of the hottest names in contemporary house music Motor City Drum Ensemble.

Dom Chung got things moving as the thousand plus capacity venue began to fill up. While the pace picked up in the main room, those of the disco and deeper persuasion were greeted by the debut Liverpool performance of MCDE. The German producer has been winning fans both with his original productions and remixes for the likes of Caribou, Zero 7 and, possibly one of the best records of 2010, his remix of Nu Frequency feat Ben Onono. For the last hour Future Disco resident Dom Chung played tag team action and went back to back ensuring this special Bank Holiday night went out with a bang to a big reception from the Easter party crowd.

We will be back later in the year and can’t wait. Liverpool seriously is one of the best party cities in the world and we have found a great home as part of one of the best club nights in the world, Circus.
